Apart from pathways, bowers used to be made over seats, too, so that one could sit snugly under the shadow of creepers and the sweet smelling flowers, just like in the picture below, titled Rustic Bower sourced from The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

And here is an image of Lord Krishna and Radha under a bower, which is much smaller and cosier. This sort of a bower would be perfect for romance. In this image, one can clearly see the flower-laden creepers knitted over the bower. There are lovely flowering trees in the garden too. The night sky is resplendent with the moon and the stars shining above.
